ADU and remodeling contractor in Malibu
Malibu is not a tract-lot ADU. The whole city sits in the coastal zone and in a very high fire hazard area. Access, fire, and whether the parcel needs a coastal development permit decide the job before the floor plan does.

We take Malibu work when the site is buildable and the schedule is honest. Nothing on this page is a coastal approval. The City of Malibu, and sometimes the Coastal Commission’s rules for that parcel, have the last word.
Send the address and what you want: a unit for family, a remodel of the house, or both. If the lot is a beach, bluff, or habitat case, you will hear that in the first conversation.
Coastal zone, all of it
The City of Malibu is inside the California coastal zone and works under its local coastal program as well as state ADU law. Detached units, beachfront lots, bluffs, wetlands, and habitat are the hard cases. Some attached units are simpler. We do not guess which path you are on from a Zillow photo.
Fire access is a design problem
The city is a very high fire hazard severity zone, and the Los Angeles County Fire Department looks at apparatus access. A long narrow drive can stop a unit that looks fine on a site plan. We want that answer before we price a foundation.
Hillside construction, not a backyard pad
Getting concrete, steel, and lumber to a Malibu pad is part of the cost. So is tying a new roof and a new wall into a house that may already be hanging off a slope. If the number only works as a flat-lot ADU, it is the wrong number.
Remodels are often the real scope
Baths, kitchens, and careful additions to the house you have are work we will price when a brand-new detached unit is the wrong fight. We still permit them. We still write the scope.
Local questions
Can you guarantee a 60-day Malibu approval?
No. State law sets review clocks for complete ADU applications. Complete is the word that matters, and coastal or fire issues can change the path. We submit a full set and answer corrections. We do not promise the city’s calendar.
Do you build on beachfront lots?
Only after the coastal and setback rules for that parcel are clear. Some beachfront work is a rebuild conversation, not a backyard casita. If we cannot permit it, we will not start it.

Send it. We’ll tell you which building department has the job and whether the idea fits the lot.
